Treasures in the garden

Last night I realized it had been a couple of days since I had harvested our strawberry plants. While I was cleaning up the dinner dishes, I sent R and L outside to pick. R came back in to grab his camera because he found this little cutie hiding in our bushes (hmm, I think I have been watching too much John Acorn as I am now finding this spider cute!) We thought it might have been a wolf spider but I didn't think they spun webs. We'll have to wait for an official word from J.

Once the spider excitement had worn off, they went to pick berries and were a little amazed and totally pleased by what they found.

This isn't even all of the berries. Many were eaten during picking and many still need another day or two and were left on the plants. They are unbelievably sweet and tasty. I wish I could send one out to everyone to try - they are just that good! And the strawberries soon became incorporated into this dessert creation by my dear husband.

Bananas, ice cream, chocolate chips, coconut, peanuts, chocolate syrup (delicious stuff from a local guy!) and strawberries. I had to take the picture fast because it disappeared very quickly!

I was left with the task of trying to fit these berries into our fridge, which is already overflowing with fresh, local fruits and vegetables. I felt very lucky to have this 'problem'.

May I come over for dinner?? All the yummy food -- berries are my favs! -- and that casserole is making my mouth water. How lucky you are to have such a great harvest. Yum!

Your husband really knows how to make a banana split - one of my favourite desserts. I'll be over soon!!!

Can I invite myself over for dessert? I could bring my edger and some plants and you could make me work for ice cream. That looks so good. You must be excited to have your own blackberries too.

Wow! I think we know the meal plan for the next girls night... It is very nice having the blackberries - all the fruit actually - because there is nothing sweeter then freshly picked fruit.

Well, there is one thing sweeter than freshly picked fruit, and that's a husband who leaves comments on your blog to say he loves you (aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah) and who makes banana splits.

I see from that lovely creation that R made that I will have to move my visits to the summer months! I think R should come up with a "name" for that delicious dessert!
