Aspartame is dangerous

Take a look at this article on Dr Mercola's site. Aspartame is dangerous - it is made up of poisonous chemicals that can cause or worsen all sorts of conditions and diseases, such as headaches/migraines, dizziness, seizures, nausea, numbness, muscle spasms, weight gain, rashes, depression, fatigue, irritability, tachycardia, insomnia, vision problems, hearing loss, heart palpitations, breathing difficulties, anxiety attacks, slurred speech, loss of taste, tinnitus, vertigo, memory loss, joint pain, brain tumors, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, chronic fatigue syndrome, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's, mental retardation, lymphoma, birth defects, fibromyalgia, and diabetes.

Isn't it scary that something like this can be approved for use in our food and drink? We can't rely on our governments to protect us from unscrupulous manufacturers who are only out to make lots of money and are probably bribing the relevant department officials to get their products approved regardless of the harm they are causing.

Makes sugar look positively angelic, doesn't it!

Nicola, I haven't had aspartame in any form for 20 years. I knew a guy who worked in food services at the University of Calgary. He said never to buy diet pop from small stores or gas stations where the product may have been sitting for awhile because... it turns to formaldehyde within 2 years.

I was working with formaldehyde in my Neuropsych classes at the time (sheep brains - likely where the vegan thing started for me) and my prof was very cautious about impressing on us how carcinogenic formaldehyde is - and made us wear gloves and masks when dissecting (this was a full-term project as we thinly sliced through the structures week by week). Anyhoo..

No more diet coke for me!
